Cocono did not begin with a collection.
It began with years of proximity to textiles, questioning quality, construction, and what truly makes a rug last in a space.
Before anything was released, we were already inside the process.
Before the Collection
It began with ongoing conversations about quality. About what makes a rug truly last, not just physically, but visually. Why some pieces calm a room, while others overwhelm it. Why proportion, density, and texture matter more than decoration.
We questioned everything: finishes, pile height, weight, shape. We compared materials under different light. We discussed how colour behaves in real interiors, not in showrooms, but in homes.
The brand did not emerge from urgency.
It emerged from scrutiny.

Inside Production
Being close to textile production shaped everything.
Hours spent between looms, around yarn cones, in workshops where structure and material are not abstract ideas but physical realities. Seeing how threads respond to tension. Understanding how density changes durability. Observing how small adjustments alter the entire character of a surface.
That proximity removed the romanticism around design.
It replaced it with respect for construction.
Cocono’s approach is not conceptual first.
It is material first.
The First Rug
The first rug was not created to launch a collection.
It was created to understand what we, as a company, were capable of. How far could we push colour, texture, pile height, and shape?
Could a rug feel contemporary without chasing trends?
Could it carry strong character while remaining intentional?
Could proportion and material be explored beyond the expected?
That first piece explored what was possible.
It was structured in construction and confident in character, with every decision made deliberately.
But it also made something clear.
True strength was not in pushing further, it was in choosing direction. It became clear that Cocono would not be about constant novelty, but about refinement.
From that moment on, the focus shifted toward proportion, texture, and balance, toward creating rugs that feel contemporary yet timeless.

Marine's Perspective
Growing up around textiles didn’t immediately make me think I would start a brand. It simply made materials familiar.
Workshops, yarn cones, samples, they were part of daily life. Over time, that proximity shaped how I look at things. I notice density. I notice balance. I notice when something feels heavy or unresolved.
When I designed my first rug, I wasn’t thinking about legacy or philosophy. I was testing ideas. I was curious about what could be done - how colour interacts with texture, how shape influences presence.
Only later did I understand what I was actually drawn to.
Not decoration for the sake of impact, but objects with structure. Pieces that feel intentional, not accidental.
Cocono grew from that realization, not from nostalgia, but from clarity.
The Philosophy that Stayed
As the collection expanded, the foundation did not change.
Each new piece still has to answer the same questions:
Does it bring balance?
Does it feel grounded?
Will it age well in a space?
Cocono is built slowly.
Not around trends, but around atmosphere.
What started with one rug has grown into a collection, but the intention remains the same: to create rugs that anchor a room quietly, confidently, and for the long term.
